Hunter Parrish - “Beautiful City” from Godspell
My friend Boh was in town for a couple of days, and while she was here we caught a performance of the revival of Godspell on broadway. I know nothing of the show except for one song, but Boh has this encyclopedic knowledge of the stage (musical or non) so she assured me I’d like it.
You know what, she was right. There’s some lame updated jokes, but the cast and the stage direction, and the senic design are all things of beauty. It’s really worth going to see.
She told me in the film version this song is an upbeat number which I’m sure is nice, but as a slow piano driven ballad like it is here, it’s gorgeous
